Overview
JAZZKIDS™ is a performance showgroup composed of children and teens 7-15 years old. They will sing, dance and perform repertoire made up of jazz and swing standards. Their dance style is uniquely swing and lindy hop.
Since 2004, the very first group of JazzKids was curated under the directorship of Kuo Po at Kids Performing Academy of the Arts. Starting with just 8 children, JazzKids grew to more than a hundred in 2014. Selected JazzKids performed at the the San Francisco Theatre Festival in 2007 and Hong Kong Fringe Festival (2008). In 2008, JazzKids also took part in the World Championship of Performing Arts and won 4 Gold Medals. They released two albums in 2007, Fascinating Rhythm and This Christmas with JAZZKIDS™.
JazzKids™ is trained in dance and choreographed by international swing teacher Sinclair Ang who also taught and performed in many countries in Europe, USA and Asia. Vocal and stage presence coaching and presentation is conducted by Artistic Director Kuo Po, who has produced many musicals, concerts and festivals in her career.
Audition Call
In 2023, we saw the JazzKids featured in the Josiah Festival of the Arts at the end of November, Sentosa Jazz by the Cove Festival in December. Singapore Performing Arts Academy is now recruiting new members to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of JazzKids, culminating in a concert in 2024. We will be also be performing in a charity eveningat the Dreams Theatre. Other than events in Singapore, JazzKids will be traveling overseas in 2024 to perform in Hong Kong Disneyland. These events will help boost your portfolio of performing experiences.
Rehearsals are held every Saturday 12pm-2pm and additional rehearsals will be held near performance dates.
Selection to join JazzKids is by auditions only. Training fees* are to be paid upon selection.
